Compliance for Importers and Exporters

As importers and exporters, you are expected to understand and comply with International Trade Compliance, Import/Export Global Trade Compliance and Global Trade Management regulations set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

Responsible for administering and enforcing economic and trade sanctions, ensuring compliance with U.S. export laws and regulations, and protecting the security of the United States in regards to national and economic security and foreign policy, these government agencies continue to create new guidelines and regulations for companies like you.

The fines for violations of the statutes administered by OFAC and BIS can be substantial. Criminal penalties can include fines ranging from $50,000 to $10,000,000 and imprisonment ranging from 10 to 30 years for willful violations. Civil penalties range from the greater of $250,000 or twice the amount of each underlying transaction to $1,075,000 for each violation.
